Annica:
Since I was twenty years old I’ve been interested in massage and took courses in basic Swedish massage. I’ve always found it interesting with body awareness and moving skills. During my teacher- and music studies, I’ve done many courses in dance, drama and techniques of body mechanics. The year of 2000 I was living in Bristol, UK and came into contact with Indian Head massage and found it a great massage. Leaving the UK a couple of years later, I had an idea that I wanted to study Shiatsu. I had heard a lot about it in the UK and it sounded so exciting. Instead of that I did a short course in Thai massage when I was travelling, and I really liked it. Ralf and I decided to go back a year later to study more. A few months of studies in Thai massage, Thai foot massage and Shiatsu followed. Now, a few years with Thai massage I have finished my study of Shiatsu at Axelsons in Stockholm. There are many possibilities of integrating Thai massage and Shiatsu and the studies are even more exciting than I had thought. I’m really grateful to be able to give massage to people and to learn something from everyone that I meet. It’s inspiring with people who want to help others and also pass their knowledge on. I’m thinking of every teacher that I’ve had so far and I’m so happy for everything that I’ve learned.
Ralf:
In the spring of 2000 I was visiting Thailand with a friend; just hours before boarding my plane from Chiangmai to Holland I got a Thai massage. It was one of those open-from-the-street places; propellers on the ceiling. The young Thai woman who gave me a massage was continuously chatting to her colleague. She massaged my legs and arms and did twists on my back.
I thought it was fantastic. I boarded the plane with a smile on my face.
So naturally when I was back in Thailand a year later I enrolled in a one-month massage course at Mama Nit in Chiangmai. The winter thereafter Annica and I studied a few more months. I studied foot massage at Wat Pho in Bangkok and at Loi Kroh, and Thai massage at Mama Nit. We finished our studies in Chiangmai with a two-week Zen-Shiatsu course. As soon as we got our feet on the ground in Sweden we bought our house in Boda and started our business. Since then we have been improving and studying even more aspects and techniques of Thai massage. Since 2005 I am studying Shiatsu at Shiatsu Academy in Stjärnsund. Sometimes we consult Rachel King as a teacher in advanced Thai massage. In 2009 I took a course in advanced Thai massage with Itzhak Helman.
I am grateful to my grandfather, Mikael, Mama Nit, Keiji, Annica, all the people from my courses, Oda, Phillipe, Leif, Lasse, Manzanares, Itzhak, my future teachers, and the people who I have massaged so far.
